Steampunk Modern
This wonderfully eclectic Brooklyn duplex captured our hearts upon first sight. With beautiful views from the floor to ceiling windows and a collection of unique curios and objects amassed from all over the world, our challenge was to integrate a variety of design influences into a cohesive whole reflective of the owner’s immensely creative character. We introduced a collection of industrial era-inspired elements intended to channel an earlier time using exposed metal piping, old-world accessories, classic tiling and leather furnishings. This vibe works very well with midcentury modern furnishings because of their honesty and simplicity. Lacking excess adornment, they too are a throwback to a simpler time. The living room features an Adrian Pearsall sofa from the 1950s, reupholstered in purple fabric to add a more contemporary feel to the area. The warm wood base inspired us to pair it with one of the client’s unique artworks from a recycled wood art fair. Throughout the home, vintage lighting, woven rugs and antique pieces add character and a steampunk vibe to the space. A darker mood prevails in the master bedroom where the work of Jason Borders lines the wall above the bed. Using bones and skulls as a canvas, he meticulously engraves and inks them to produce fascinating works of art. Overall, this home is the visual representation of its owner – wonderfully multi-faceted, charming, and full of creative surprises.
